Presentation Title: Photobiomodulation as a Clinical Framework: Using Laser With Intent in Lower Limb Care
Photobiomodulation therapy is often taught as a modality, yet its true value lies in how it is integrated into clinical reasoning. This session reframes laser therapy as a decision-making framework that supports pain modulation, tissue recovery, and functional restoration across lower limb conditions.
The presentation will focus on how to think about PBMT, not brand-specific protocols, allowing clinicians to apply the principles irrespective of device. Emphasis will be placed on selecting the right tissue, timing, and treatment phase to enhance outcomes and avoid common pitfalls.
Building and Applying a PBMT Framework for Lower Limb Conditions
Workshop Overview:
This practical workshop translates the presentation framework into real-world application. Delegates will work through a simple, repeatable PBMT structure that can be applied immediately in clinic.
Rather than focusing on a single pathology, the workshop demonstrates how the same framework adapts to different presentations, ensuring clinicians leave confident to implement PBMT with intent rather than habit.
Dr Kent Hungerford is a podiatrist with advanced clinical doctoral training and significant experience in the management of complex foot and ankle pain.
He brings extensive experience from clinical practice throughout Australia combined with international training in both standard, advanced and surgical foot and ankle management. After stepping back from surgical podiatry, he now works predominantly within high level conservative and advanced podiatry, focusing on patients whose chronic pain has not responded to standard care. Dr Hungerford understands chronic pain experiencing this after fracturing his hip and injuring his shoulder. A large part of his clinical work is helping to manage chronic and resistant lower limb and foot pain.
Dr Hungerford integrates detailed diagnostic skills with advanced injection techniques and world leading technology, including MLS laser therapy, to deliver highly individualised management plans aimed at achieving faster and more effective outcomes. His philosophy is built on accurate diagnosis, evidence based care, and supporting patients to return to comfortable and confident movement as quickly as possible.
As the National Clinical Lead for Heal With Laser for Australia and New Zealand, Dr Hungerford is responsible for educating health practitioners on the optimal use of MLS laser therapy systems for patients. In this role, he works to advance future healthcare and pain management through the integration of new technology, ensuring practitioners across the region can deliver the most effective laser therapy treatments to their patients.
